Earlier this week I went to a local thrift store to look for something to use for my own last minute halloween costume, on the way in the door I saw this lamp. It was still on the porch, hadn't even been brought in to be checked over or priced. I've been wanting to try spray painting a lamp, so when I found out that it worked & was only $5, I bought it. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcQbX2-vHi226y5nfGLuwX6GNrnbmxgo4kka-ICI41v6hu0e1cK1aobD9hTc5E2UetND0tfohJCZZOHBDN4g_9VZ8CnSsJKgNcsYTISzetRby4dHspsqnczRExkeaWqTV6XtplItHu7Ec/s1600/spraypaint-10.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcQbX2-vHi226y5nfGLuwX6GNrnbmxgo4kka-ICI41v6hu0e1cK1aobD9hTc5E2UetND0tfohJCZZOHBDN4g_9VZ8CnSsJKgNcsYTISzetRby4dHspsqnczRExkeaWqTV6XtplItHu7Ec/s640/spraypaint-10.JPG" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had to wipe off all of the dust and then took off the shade & harp (I wouldn't be re-purposing these... at least not for this lamp). I used some masking tape to cover up the top where I didn't want it painted. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDzbi8O90l_xrTsBoshHH-8Huq1xtCO2iOTQyh_wmSm8BWGWPZqlS0l8p8CtwEN9lgZlwXy7EBQosbBkWjx6wIeLkI5W8DdKLFPzujQte3vM6vx3z-GeOUilNJEwvKRc4-M45zDpOQdbg/s1600/spraypaint-11.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDzbi8O90l_xrTsBoshHH-8Huq1xtCO2iOTQyh_wmSm8BWGWPZqlS0l8p8CtwEN9lgZlwXy7EBQosbBkWjx6wIeLkI5W8DdKLFPzujQte3vM6vx3z-GeOUilNJEwvKRc4-M45zDpOQdbg/s640/spraypaint-11.JPG" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHGg8GzaLhx_FU9f0Vt8P6YlRocV54Hd2TyMWmOvhSm6MCd1DYvTz6me97LDe7-7YiBM5mLbJwL_gzAf9MW3iKvz_C8jN2w_l1z7P9Kj62I66UT4ZIHov2nzEKh23mlEEfAoXaqUAiq1M/s1600/spraypaint-12.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHGg8GzaLhx_FU9f0Vt8P6YlRocV54Hd2TyMWmOvhSm6MCd1DYvTz6me97LDe7-7YiBM5mLbJwL_gzAf9MW3iKvz_C8jN2w_l1z7P9Kj62I66UT4ZIHov2nzEKh23mlEEfAoXaqUAiq1M/s640/spraypaint-12.JPG" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I was able to tuck the whole cord up into lamp to prevent it from being painted on (otherwise I'd have put it in a plastic bag & used tape to keep it from being painted too). <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX9hlqUxOnpyXo0M-FADrO8r5zCFBlD5ph864cLVON4JBlNIAzHJGsW2IyKcmOSVL23Ch9y8D63dq0aoJ3KAV1Cf2gHEtXyy5-M7lvR5T77uWxSDsHbAAO5_bJKrCeJoOwDuf239pv1Fo/s1600/spraypaint-14.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX9hlqUxOnpyXo0M-FADrO8r5zCFBlD5ph864cLVON4JBlNIAzHJGsW2IyKcmOSVL23Ch9y8D63dq0aoJ3KAV1Cf2gHEtXyy5-M7lvR5T77uWxSDsHbAAO5_bJKrCeJoOwDuf239pv1Fo/s320/spraypaint-14.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was when I noticed for the first time that there is an extra socket to make the base of the lamp light up too... however I'm pretty sure that this additional light would make the marks from being spray painted more visible so I'm not going to try it ... or hunt down an extra night light bulb to try it, well at least for now). ;) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1iqq3cFQy5Q6BQwRkLY4EEEwzO0cGndZJFti-T5srzgqoCJ6TgO-U9s0RhBAQ6auBzh7kQ_eaLAxrxFcJIQmKXCwEomixUCjspfOj8nhtRzmJL3IUQNqwPYa3uSzAJ7PE3jDJBUUs4-w/s640/spraypaint-13.JPG" width="424" /> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I feel like the lamp had some pretty details on it. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then it was time to paint. This was after 1 coat of paint. I ended up using the whole can. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Here it is in our living room on the sofa table behind the couch. I found a cute lampshade at Wal-Mart for $12 (this was perfect - ended up being cheaper than buying a new plain on and recovering with fabric). </div>

The paint didn't completely cover the brass on the top & bottom of the lamp, but that's ok. I probably would've bought some sort of antiquing glaze to give it that look on the metal parts anyway. :) <br />

I'm super happy with the results. And can't wait to do my next one... I just need to decide on the color. </div>
hey look at what i didhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02977068133344643403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2763893037179293317.post-22301597248604389182012-11-01T19:07:00.000-07:002012-11-01T19:07:22.305-07:00How I salvaged my floor register vent covers... for $7<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Do your register covers look like this? Or worse (some of ours did)...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This is how I took care of the problem for $7! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8h3roAmaqHaQ_EuycD8Zmt1TCOufYKAfqREQ1Ee3vMVgcIl0jgc12aCVpDjlwcf0YDG53PrS-9BnA2o5-g7M1xBS3Y4ovBFyPTm-EfqVQNrX1yP65rP834W8yxKhUuWDwCat93k49EeQ/s1600/spraypaint-9.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8h3roAmaqHaQ_EuycD8Zmt1TCOufYKAfqREQ1Ee3vMVgcIl0jgc12aCVpDjlwcf0YDG53PrS-9BnA2o5-g7M1xBS3Y4ovBFyPTm-EfqVQNrX1yP65rP834W8yxKhUuWDwCat93k49EeQ/s640/spraypaint-9.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We have lived in our house for about 2.5 years now. During that entire time the register covers for the floor vents have always bothered me. In the master bedroom they were pink (yes pink!) even though the carpet had been replaced with a neutral tan, next to doors they had scratches & rust, and the kitchen ones were even nasty brass (but rusty in spots)... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Needless to say I've always wanted to replace them... but well every time I'd go to Home Depot & start loading up my shopping cart with new ones (even the boring tan metal ones) the cost would add up so fast. For our main floor alone I need 11! And when I wanted the ones that were atleast $15, well now you know why 2.5 years later I still had gross/blah looking register covers. ;)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then other day on pinterest I saw a<a href="http://thefrugalhomemaker.com/2012/08/13/update-your-vent-covers-with-spray-paint/" target="_blank"> pin</a> that described how the person used spray paint to clean theirs up. And I thought to myself, "WOW! What a great idea, I need to do that." Then today while at Home Depot I found some <a href="http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=180" target="_blank">Rust-Oleum Universal Hammered spray paint</a>, that is the Dark Bronze color with a Hammered effect. OMG! I love this stuff! It was on sale for $6.97 and I only bought 1 can, but now I need more because I was only able to get 7 covers done and I still need to finish the other 5. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All I did was pull mine out, was them off (then vacuum out the vents -eeewww it was gross... just one of those tasks I never really think to tackle), layed them out on newspaper & started spraying. It dried fairly quickly between coats and I love the texture that the Rust-Oleum "Hammered" gives. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now for some before & after pictures</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
well ok, not really... <br />
<br />
We were recently invited to a good friend's little boys 3rd birthday. My friend goes all out with her parties for his birthday, seriously she does amazing parties for him. Like everything that I see on Pinterest/Etsy and love, but am too cheap or lazy to get around to doing it (b/c I tend to procrastinate on these things) she does. And they are big parties too, not just 6 or 7 little kids. My hat's off to you (well I guess her hat, since as part of the party we brought home 3 straw cowboy hats). ;) Great party! Maybe next year I'll you plan my kids birthdays!<br />
<br />
But I digress...<br />
<br />
I new that she was going to go all out for the theme of the party so I wanted to have something fun & theme appropriate for my daughter to wear. I've also been waiting for the right inspiration to make a horse themed set for her, but didn't want to make something that would only get worn for 1 or 2 times. I'm so glad that I waited. I had the 2 Joel Dewberry fabrics since last winter, but only recently found a pony print fabric that I liked at a local quilt shop.<br />
<br />
For my skirt pattern I used the free tutorial from Dana Made It (<a href="http://www.danamadeit.com/2008/07/tutorial-the-market-skirt.html" target="_blank">link here</a>) luckily her measurements were the same as what I'd need for a 2/3. I made a couple of changes though- I didn't add pockets this time, but might some other time and I just serged the bottom layer and left it plain (didn't turn up the hem). I liked it like this and frankly it was easier (there I said it)... sometimes finishing the hem can be the reason I don't finish a project (just ask the almost completed reversible jumper dress hanging in my basement!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

What's a Foofa?I had a friend contact me in early July about making a Foofa shirt for her daughter's 2nd birthday party. I was like "uh, what's a Foofa?" ... Apparently there is at least 1 toddler show that my kids have never managed to watch often enough for me to know that Foofa is a character from Nick Jr's show, Yo-Gaba-Gaba. <br />

<br />
A couple of weeks ago I started a facebook page because I'd begun getting quite a few requests for shirts via my personal page. So now this way I hope its easier to keep up with what I've been making or to order. I still plan on doing my blog though, because I'll still like to share not only my sewing but other crafty type projects as I get them done around here. :)<br />
<br />
Here is the link to my facebook page! Please feel free to Like it & share with your friends. :) Or just click on the logo image above. https://www.facebook.com/HeyLookCustomDesignsByRosiehey look at what i didhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02977068133344643403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2763893037179293317.post-23853351098518263632012-07-03T08:57:00.004-07:002012-07-03T08:57:49.942-07:00More Ninjagos<div style="text-align: center;">

A while back I had a sweet momma message me to make a ninjago shirt for her son, but she also wanted a shirt for her daughter that could coordinate with some of her pieces from her new Matilda Jane Co. - Serendipity Line favorites. Luckily she already had the perfect color of tshirt that she sent to me along with a few of the mesh bags that MJC likes to package their items in, one of them from the line last fall even had a nice button on it that I was able to use. I already had all of these fabrics here - one is a great match for the line (its the blue that's the main part of the purse) and the shoe fabric is one of my all time favorite fabrics too. I love the sweet result of it & hope she does too!</div>

<span style="background-color: white;">We are a family that LOVES the St Louis Cardinals. My husband and boys have almost entire drawers full of cardinals shirts, but my daughter has 1 girly cardinals t shirt and its almost too small (well she has a few hand me downs from the boys... but she doesn't leave home in them). :) </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A while ago I started to attempt to make her an upcycled dress out of recycled cardinals shirts from my husbands pile of shirts that might have a hole or small stain on them - the beauty of upcycling one of his shirts is that chances are really good that I can just cut around the bad part. Weeeeellllllll.... summer is really here and I just haven't found the time, energy or confidence in myself to finish this dress. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But I was looking at this one section of it that had an applique on it vs a screen print tshirt. I also knew that I had purchased a really cute, but simple navy and white stripe tank top from Old Navy this spring, but hadn't figured out what it pair with it or to applique on it. Yesterday it struck me to put the two items together. This is the result! I love it. :)

What I did is just cut a piece of fusible webbing, ironed it on to the back of the applique, cut out the shape I liked, laid it right on top of the tank, ironed it on w/ the steam setting and then used a straight line stitch around the edges to hold it down. :) I also used some fray check to keep the raw edges nice. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It took about 30-45minutes. Quick & easy. MUCH simpler & faster than any other appliques I've done for about the last year! </div>

I had a couple of fun requests lately for customs. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The first is a set of Big Sister/Big Brother shirts for an old friend that's going to be announcing her 3rd baby soon. Congrats again friend! We thought it would be fun to have a bit of coordination in the shirts but since she has 1 daughter and 1 son, well we'd give them boy/girl options. So I used the same green/white dot fabric and then the turquoise & red gingham's are the same vintage fabric different colorways. I've been hoarding the baseball fabric for something for my daughter... but thought I'd share a little corner of it for this sweet little boy. :) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_h6w22Kzrea2IBEv0ozj7WNJyqUfBBP2cBOXfCFZ2FYP7M9Jqom2mFNl80mFEUxErzIxtiWmbIKRK8DKwyqmq3NaaAIc4qSwUUJLjzj2PZxHgbAXEXJo4DO2cmvjGmtvitrKjJNnZ5yM/s1600/leannebig.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="494" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_h6w22Kzrea2IBEv0ozj7WNJyqUfBBP2cBOXfCFZ2FYP7M9Jqom2mFNl80mFEUxErzIxtiWmbIKRK8DKwyqmq3NaaAIc4qSwUUJLjzj2PZxHgbAXEXJo4DO2cmvjGmtvitrKjJNnZ5yM/s640/leannebig.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_h6w22Kzrea2IBEv0ozj7WNJyqUfBBP2cBOXfCFZ2FYP7M9Jqom2mFNl80mFEUxErzIxtiWmbIKRK8DKwyqmq3NaaAIc4qSwUUJLjzj2PZxHgbAXEXJo4DO2cmvjGmtvitrKjJNnZ5yM/s1600/leannebig.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Then I had another customer whose planning a trip to Disney. She bought the cutest Minnie ruffled shorties from Loves Me Not Clothing Co. see <a href="http://lovesmenotclothing.com/item_353/Mini-Ruffle-Shorties.htm" target="_blank">HERE</a> and wanted something casual to wear with them. I was able to put this together for her daughter and then we did a Mickey for her son too. I used my cricut expression with a Mickey cartridge to cut out the shapes and letters. The best part is I was worried at first about how to get the size ratio of the letters to mouse correct, I'd totally forgotten that there are options for each letter to be cut into the mouse. Worked out perfect!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hope they have a magical trip next week!<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_h6w22Kzrea2IBEv0ozj7WNJyqUfBBP2cBOXfCFZ2FYP7M9Jqom2mFNl80mFEUxErzIxtiWmbIKRK8DKwyqmq3NaaAIc4qSwUUJLjzj2PZxHgbAXEXJo4DO2cmvjGmtvitrKjJNnZ5yM/s1600/leannebig.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /><img border="0" height="494" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsheIHFQSSRH7_KlkLsVbSdnomSegZz2Kr0OCoz-7wsfrWjWhYulTBpx7XvGRkysbmSZVIgsM6JRSJskt407wTU1RRB_6XIuVUCkXbwE1nF_wpzkSJkNo8Agx1-c_o8uVnN6bCNs9Re8E/s640/kellymickeyshirts.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>hey look at what i didhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02977068133344643403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2763893037179293317.post-35461553618529577232012-06-14T16:11:00.002-07:002012-06-14T16:21:00.955-07:00Lalaloopsy Birthday Shirt<div style="text-align: center;">
I recently had a friend contact me and ask me if I could make a shirt for her little girl's 5th birthday. She's got a cute Lalaloopsy Theme - complete with a Lalaloopsy costume picked out for her, BUT... just in case it was too hot or she gets tired of it my friend wanted something for her to wear that still went along with the theme. I was thrilled that she asked me to make something for 2 reasons - # 1 I love to do these & help people find the right shirt, #2 because I think Lalaloopsy dolls (big, mini, soft, medium... all of them) are so darn cute. :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's what I came up with after she said she wanted something with a doll holding a balloon & some buttons on it. She mentioned that one of her daughters favorites was the Sugar Crumbs doll (if you've seen some of my other Lala appliques you'll note that in the past I've just put fabrics together that I liked) so this time I did a pretty close remake of the original working with what I had on hand & could find. I did use real buttons & hand stitched them all on + hand stitching for the mouth - all of which prompts me to really recommend a wash on gentle & line dry (which I always recommend anyway). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I hope she likes it!

I have posted before how my boys are obsessed with the new Lego Ninjago series... well I'd been promising them Ninjago Shirts for a while, so I finally got around to making them... which then has resulted in some more orders of them. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm finding that the little details on these, combined with having the kids home for summer (no preschool) is making it take a bit longer to get my projects done. But I'm starting to get back into a groove. </div>
<br />
Here are the ones I've done so far... <br />
1.) Jay (my son)<br />

I've got some more orders for more Jay & Kai - those seem to be the favorites of all the kids. :) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My boys request to wear them multiple times per week - looks like I need to find time to make more for them too!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
If you'd like to order one - here's a link to my custom information, though I currently charge $20+ship for these because of the extra little details on them. :) <a href="http://heylookatwhatidid.blogspot.com/p/ordering-custom-shirts.html" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color: blue;">CUSTOM SHIRTS</span></strong></a></div>hey look at what i didhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02977068133344643403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2763893037179293317.post-45080975460244957912012-06-05T07:38:00.000-07:002012-06-05T08:17:46.761-07:00Preppy Baby Birthday ShirtA friend asked if I could make a shirt for her daughter's first birthday. She had picked this cute Preppy Party theme - <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Preppy Girl 1st Birthday Party Deluxe Box" height="370" id="multiplepics2" name="multiplepics2" src="http://images.birthdayinabox.com/BIABviewLarger/405712DBox.jpg" style="height: 350px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; width: 350px;" title="Preppy Girl 1st Birthday Party Deluxe Box" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">from<a href="http://www.birthdayinabox.com/first-birthday/productdetail.asp?prodsku=20366&cat_id=0&dept_id=533&fb_source=message#" target="_blank"> Birthday In A Box</a><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">So once she decided how she wanted the colors used (bright pink shirt, lime whale, and light pink "1") I was able to get to work. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">I</span><span style="font-size: small;"> came up with this </span><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLi2JfacE-idO1TVqHDzpH-XMCzjBadblMnjYsqJFx0UYZWFKBXrQ7cKSKpjIYaPgmSeoK7AU33Y0wzvTZK_yuGfgKt6ogLTMGyX9RxKrjprTgFnGuFvJ85shZBbAK-zyiZDKUtPl92pI/s1600/whalebday+(1+of+5).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLi2JfacE-idO1TVqHDzpH-XMCzjBadblMnjYsqJFx0UYZWFKBXrQ7cKSKpjIYaPgmSeoK7AU33Y0wzvTZK_yuGfgKt6ogLTMGyX9RxKrjprTgFnGuFvJ85shZBbAK-zyiZDKUtPl92pI/s640/whalebday+(1+of+5).JPG" width="424" /></a></div>

Fun & simple gift<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_lKEsirk8wZD4-f89FAuudGiZuWofWupbaRa1c39MnO2e5oCvKmpSo7n-X69A9eG5JtrK1yDsgrjXnfiaBF-N_ARrj4QI2U1ZhyphenhyphenBTtxNJmISNFXbrO7UgqJazqP8xJEMEgnVdyjySw7Q/s1600/gabbyroom+(3+of+4).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_lKEsirk8wZD4-f89FAuudGiZuWofWupbaRa1c39MnO2e5oCvKmpSo7n-X69A9eG5JtrK1yDsgrjXnfiaBF-N_ARrj4QI2U1ZhyphenhyphenBTtxNJmISNFXbrO7UgqJazqP8xJEMEgnVdyjySw7Q/s320/gabbyroom+(3+of+4).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I had my daughter I was all about wanting some girly things (obviously - you've seen her room). But at the same time I knew it didn't mean going out and buying ALL new baby things. One thing that I reused was the burp cloths for the boys - they were this great soft cotton cloth diaper (mostly Gerber brand) - I took them all (about 18) soaked them in bleach for a few days to get them nice and white, and then added fun fabrics to them all (pinks/flowers/etc - girly). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well once I started sewing more I wanted to make some as gifts for friends. Imagine my surprise the first time I went to the store to buy some new cloth diapers (since I wasn't going to use recycled from my own kids :p ) and the quality felt horrible. They were scratchy & thin. YUCK. So I started looking for better options. I've found 2 good methods I think. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
*The first is to use a bath towel/toweling fabric as the plain side and then get cute/pretty flannel for the other side. They are both soft and absorbent.<br />
*The other option I've tried with good luck is to buy some pre-quilted fabric - there is the solid white that just has pre-quilted diamonds that I use for the back side, and then I have found some really cute pre-quilted/patchwork quilt in baby fabrics (mixture of prints/solids, flannel, chamois) - this really gives a boutique look. <br />
<br />
I do plan on doing a full on tutorial soon - but for now will just share a few quick pictures of a recent baby boy gift set. I loved this car print flannel and then found that it was a pretty simple design to just add a coordinating knit fabric applique car to a onesie. I think this set turned out adorable!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn75rDU___fSLvHkcXiYTM8ToGV7Lwz7xJWDKsLbw9sXbR_Fbv-OxvKSMVu3tksVJkD_Xm1Myx6sOEGMkRVpWu5asWUIfrL-xZ-Yiyftt_IddF-vp10DfHlSFZEHCsWTyZbjvQxTDWARc/s1600/gabbyroom+(4+of+4).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn75rDU___fSLvHkcXiYTM8ToGV7Lwz7xJWDKsLbw9sXbR_Fbv-OxvKSMVu3tksVJkD_Xm1Myx6sOEGMkRVpWu5asWUIfrL-xZ-Yiyftt_IddF-vp10DfHlSFZEHCsWTyZbjvQxTDWARc/s320/gabbyroom+(4+of+4).JPG" width="212" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuh9NZ4XFxyOoxmsts3v7lH3Z5-swaQ9kiPSNAMA5p4Q4EIw_Wy9ziLyK3IuGcXytwLESDbG05XL3rhhkD40MSYxRgFVNAwUjhBHqbnm97eMe2G3tidOeYyCbg5y6QGhZRTSJYgMEoy2Y/s1600/gabbyroom+(2+of+4).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuh9NZ4XFxyOoxmsts3v7lH3Z5-swaQ9kiPSNAMA5p4Q4EIw_Wy9ziLyK3IuGcXytwLESDbG05XL3rhhkD40MSYxRgFVNAwUjhBHqbnm97eMe2G3tidOeYyCbg5y6QGhZRTSJYgMEoy2Y/s320/gabbyroom+(2+of+4).JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What I did was cut out 10x20 rectangles (2 on the flannel print, 2 on a towel)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
then sew the edges using about a 1/2 in. seam allowance w/ the right sides facing each other - but be sure to leave about a 3 in opening (or however big you need to pull the whole thing through). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Trim the edges and corners and pull right side out. Tuck in the opening and top-stitch the entire rectangle with a 1/4 in allowance - sometimes I will double top-stitch w/ an additional 1/2" allowance -but this last time ran out of time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next time I'll take pictures along the way. I really ought to just make up a stash since they are cute and sweet little gifts. :) </div>
<br />
If you can sew a straight (or semi - straight line) then you can make a burp cloth for a gift or bulk up your own stash because... well, spit happens with babies and you can never have too many. ;)<br />

We are taking the kids to the zoo today. YAY! I knew I wanted something fun for the kids to wear, so I asked the boys what animal shirt would they like to wear. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Dominic immediately replied "A monkey with no hair" and do you know what!? I already had one of those made for him about 2 years ago - and because I had made it on a shirt too big it still fits! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmhEPaTE0it9beQG3CgNc3QYcbYZZpomYlqK6KTivJz8QxGOvUHuD87ZsBwyzBs-oXVmLgP_k2zxxD2ZgL8bH1S_tctWJ-p89FcmmOQv6LnD1IvzfQLfRcDVX2uuaN27mkU3tzhynODHU/s1600/DSC_0377.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmhEPaTE0it9beQG3CgNc3QYcbYZZpomYlqK6KTivJz8QxGOvUHuD87ZsBwyzBs-oXVmLgP_k2zxxD2ZgL8bH1S_tctWJ-p89FcmmOQv6LnD1IvzfQLfRcDVX2uuaN27mkU3tzhynODHU/s400/DSC_0377.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then Vincent said he wanted a lion. So I found a cute design for him. He wants to find the lions & say "ROAR. Because that is saying hi to them." So funny!</div>

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
And then for Gabby... she's a baby so I picked. ;) I had really wanted to make a skirt for her but I just couldn't find a tutorial like I wanted and so I am going to just wait and make one when I have more time - we'll go to the zoo again. So instead she's wearing a Matilda Jane skirt that we already had - the style name for it is Gabbi.</div>

And now its time for me to stop blogging & finish getting ready for the zoo! Have a wonderful day! </div>

<span style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">I recently posted some pictures taken inside my daughters room and have had people ask to see more. :) So here's pictures of her very girly room. After having two (sweet) boys I was totally ready for a 100% girly space for a little baby girl to call her own.</span>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the view when you first walk in. Please note - that we switched the nobs on the dresser, but needed new screws - when I sent my husband to the store to get new ones, he left the extra knob in his truck... and we never saw it again! lol. I made these bow hook/hangers from some metal flower hooks at Hobby Lobby - I just found some metal washers out in my husbands toolbox, painted them cream, then ran a cute ribbon through it & hot glued it in place. :) They work great! I can hang up knit hats/headbands on the hooks too! </div>

Next to the dresser is a rocking chair that is from my parents house. Its part of a pair - but this one was always in their attic, my mom rocked my brother & I in the matching one that's still in their living-room. The patchwork quilt on the rocking chair is one that my mom (Nana to my kids) made for her. Its so sweet and there is even one made from the scraps for her dolls too. ;) </div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then is her crib (this is the first time for us to have a baby still in the crib past 17 months due to how close our kids are in age - I am loving it! lol). Her crib bedding is from Land of Nod - <span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small; line-height: 16px;"> </span>Winter, Spring,Summer or Patch Percale Crib. I only recently took out the bumper because I had to wash it and just haven't put it back in yet - its so cute, sweet & girly.</div>

The curtains were made by my talented second cousin Patty - the fabric is from Joann (but I saw it at Hobby Lobby too) and is a decorator weight - ivory/pink damask print. I made the pink/yellow/green bunting as a decoration for her 1st birthday party. I never intended for it to be hung like this over the window - but haven't figured out how I wanted it hung. I am thinking over the crib and around that side of the room.</div>

The newest acquisition for the room is this sweet little fairy/flower table & chairs set I found on clearance at Big Lots. I moved her crib around to fit this and her tent in last week (basically these 2 things are what prompted this post & the pictures). Its cute & she's had lots of fun with tea parties & her babies already. we had to add a little high chair for baby dolls and the rocking chair (from my Grandma) for extra seating - 3 kids + 2 chairs is not a good thing! The pink rug is from the Pottery Barn Outlet store in Ohio. Got it on clearance. </div>

I decided to humor her passion for these cute little monsters with some applique shirts for her. I already had these striped shirts in my stash of plain shirts and think they are a fun new addition to her wardrobe. Definitely much cuter than the glittery Elmo shirt my husband brought home a few weeks ago from the store (<i>unfortunately</i> it was too small). ;) He tried so I can't tease him too much I guess. What do you think?<br />

For my son's party I made some ninja headband things (not sure what the proper ninja term for such a thing is) I used a Lego Ninjago Logo that I found on google and put it into PSE (photoshop) to add each boys name. They turned out cute. The image transfer was soooo good I decided to try it for a shirt for my daughter. I had already pinned several sites that offer "FREE Printable Images" (free is the key here) so I searched for one that would work with a pink shirt she already had & is close to outgrowing (if it didn't work well I didn't want to waste a new shirt).<br />
<br />
<u>Supplies needed:</u><br />
Color ink printer<br />
Iron On Dark Tshirt Transfer paper (for ink-jet printers) - *there is also a version for white/light shirts too.<br />
Scissors<br />
Iron<br />
Image you want to use<br />
Plain shirt/dress/skirt, etc to put it on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.freeprettythingsforyou.com/2010/05/vintage-blue-bird-love-freebie-image/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDEj6R4bUW3R1xjNn9jAoz_vdrDtDVeZVQEPdQLpKgzeghakEcje87SFMvF2CSeTNa9__ZyqhPKR-sqU5MbuqBGgmoZfeVho_z4ZfPIzULQKxMUPxDpY3vsA8OEZmr8kglXAQ5B-x0wCpZ/s400/bb2ex.jpg" width="281" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
This is the image I picked from <a href="http://www.freeprettythingsforyou.com/2010/05/vintage-blue-bird-love-freebie-image/" target="_blank"><b>Free Pretty Things For You</b></a>. (I LOOOVE her site! Adorable images, free, & great ideas - thank you for sharing with us!) I put it into PSE to resize it for a shirt. The graphic isn't perfectly sharp, but its still usable (besides my daughter moves so fast most of the time its not like anyone can tell the difference).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGKj2mVel8KERwh0opOoCZ7obNbjdEnoxvLODZPdwS9d37fv0DYxoB3FNcCD2gdiGie4224cmsmQTITdITI0cJ30l9AWo-qo6ToW9JrIozMsEMKQUVGhLWzfNJUDwe_e6pN-R8LpvR0rE/s1600/birdie+%25281+of+3%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGKj2mVel8KERwh0opOoCZ7obNbjdEnoxvLODZPdwS9d37fv0DYxoB3FNcCD2gdiGie4224cmsmQTITdITI0cJ30l9AWo-qo6ToW9JrIozMsEMKQUVGhLWzfNJUDwe_e6pN-R8LpvR0rE/s640/birdie+%25281+of+3%2529.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Once I had the image re-sized I put the transfer paper in and printed it out at best quality. I used this June Tailor Dark T-Shirt Transfer paper (they also make one for light/white shirts too).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG7yHhguuH0UL2kfjkK816MAkNeTEhVkHzcZLzG16wKVPGhwHsEw03zBD6DL-KFXdD2oSlidCg_dVlKB9TwYx0t3CGakF8ZGmDZQcOijSW7hp4yIP4qJMx02uPOUP5gabpv-CJ-v18pp4/s1600/birdie+(3+of+3).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG7yHhguuH0UL2kfjkK816MAkNeTEhVkHzcZLzG16wKVPGhwHsEw03zBD6DL-KFXdD2oSlidCg_dVlKB9TwYx0t3CGakF8ZGmDZQcOijSW7hp4yIP4qJMx02uPOUP5gabpv-CJ-v18pp4/s640/birdie+(3+of+3).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I cut out around the image. Following the EASY directions on the package - I turned the iron on low (NO STEAM), took the paper backing off the image (very carefully, the vinyl type image can tear), positioned it on the shirt, layed the included parchment paper over it, and pressed down firmly for 20seconds (lifting iron up to move to get the whole image on), then for another 1-1.5 minutes ran the iron over it to make sure it was all set. That's it! DONE! So fast & easy. I spent more time searching for the right image than the entire rest of the project.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM1gC6hg6ZwIp0wpguIz_qbHb6ir2GcBxxmmp8czsr_XdArXmY3C7dFg-Sjym-Oz5TKw13jG8bCTSTYbINxfPjE2hemPWU7a7oVGb8O3F_mpwf69ijNPwMDhA77OgvlR8IEj34bwgSRac/s1600/birdie+(2+of+3).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM1gC6hg6ZwIp0wpguIz_qbHb6ir2GcBxxmmp8czsr_XdArXmY3C7dFg-Sjym-Oz5TKw13jG8bCTSTYbINxfPjE2hemPWU7a7oVGb8O3F_mpwf69ijNPwMDhA77OgvlR8IEj34bwgSRac/s400/birdie+(2+of+3).JPG" width="265" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Now I waited to blog about this until AFTER she'd worn it & I had washed it. When it came to wash it I soaked it first in a bucket with white vinegar and water for a few hours - do I know if it helped, no but I thought it was worth a shot to hold the colors in. Then I turned the shirt inside out, washed on cold & hung to dry. I did have to re iron the image (w/ parchment paper) to get out the wrinkles, but it worked so well! Would I do these to sell - no. But if you need a shirt to go with a 1 time only occasion that your kids won't need again (think theme days at school or holidays) that you want something unique or custom for that is cheap, quick and easy this could be a project for you! Plus there is no sewing involved for my friends that don't know how to sew (or have time to).<br />
<br />
**I also want to note that I also did a shirt with a ninja image for my son for his party and the red from the headband bled allover the face, so I would be careful about using red colors next to white, but a busy image like the birdy above worked great!<br />
<br />
If you try this & it works for you let me know! Or if you need some help feel free to leave a comment - I'll see what I can do to help you!hey look at what i didhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02977068133344643403noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2763893037179293317.post-24539480744424681472012-02-13T16:46:00.000-08:002012-02-13T16:46:04.908-08:00Just a quick little summer dressWell even though its February and we are experiencing snow, yesterday I picked up this cute little dress at Wal-Mart and added this adorable if I do say so myself birdie applique to it. There were several other colors of this style - I will probably go back for more! I also have a longsleeve one to do this too ASAP! Love the results!<br />

<u><b><span style="font-size: large;">Elmo Birthday Shirt</span></b></u></div>
First up is a fun little Elmo Birthday Shirt for a little girl who's turning 2. I am so happy with how cute it turned out. Almost every one of my appliques that I make are my first time doing them (since I don't mass produce for selling purposes) - so I guess it always surprises me with how cute the end up being. :)<br />

My cousin & his wife took their girls to Disney at the beginning of the month. She wanted to surprise the girls with fun disney themed outfits for the trip she asked me if I'd make a couple of shirts for them. I was thrilled to do it. She found two ideas online and asked if I could do them. I am not sure exactly where from, but thanks if they are yours. :) </div>

<u><b><span style="font-size: large;">Christmas Shirts</span></b></u></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These are way late for sharing too :) But here's the Christmas shirts I did for the kids for Christmas. I bought the cutest ruffled skirt from <b><u>Bits n Pieces by Kristin</u></b> (she has a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bits-n-Pieces-by-Kristin/181234265241145" target="_blank">facebook page</a> and an <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/BitsNPiecesbyKristin" target="_blank">etsy shop</a>) - her items are soooo cute. I hope someday to figure out how to make another skirt like this myself, but seriously couldn't have been any happier with what I got from her. I have seen so many cute things created by her. </div>

My kids are happy b/c they are still getting a superhero shirt and I'm happy because they are AND its not a super tacky superhero in action screen print either. Win-win right? I also did the Iron Man shirt for my nephew and he loves his too. :)</div>

<b><u><span style="font-size: large;">Sneak Peek for Valentines Day</span></u></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a sneak peek at the Valentines Knot Dress I made for my daughter. Its the very first time I attempted a knot style dress - I didn't use any particular tutorial or pattern. I did look at a few blogs and dress that we had bought already - but its not the same as any of them. I need to tweak a few things on this one & then I'll take more pictures of it. The next go around I might attempt a tutorial of sorts - I always get so many tips from other blogs, I'd like to spread the love in a way. :)</div>

Thursday night at about 10 p.m. I realized I didn't have a special shirt for Vincent to wear to his Christmas party. So I went through my supplies and found some pieces to a Rudolf applique I had started for him 2 years ago & just never finished. So I grabbed his red shirt and made new green antlers for it. He looked soooo cute in it! I'd been waiting for over 2 weeks for a red shirt from Old Navy to arrive for Gabby and it came yesterday, so next up is shirts for her & Dominic. Who knows... I might even do them for Dan & I if there's enough time. :)<br />

Seriously it seems like I've been working on these 3 bags forever... I started them & then got busy with the kids, decorating & shopping for Christmas, and basically life. However I have been working on them little bits at a time. Here's a quick peek at the 3 bags I'm going to list & try to sell on etsy. I'm excited about trying it & we'll see how it goes. They aren't quite finished yet, but the applique's are all done. I hope to upload a listing Sunday Dec. 11 in the evening at some point. </div>

OK, I'm not really ready for snow yet. But the house sure would look pretty & more festive with snow. Yesterday I shared our indoor Christmas decorations and today it stopped raining long enough for me to hop outside & snap a few pictures. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj62bxUpRVJVQylZ_wdFFYdP4qKLQRqlYel6M5r-ZU0l6l7tq6H8NtLDZBEbxdxHVRyo6vtTAizJs9mqcXn7qJgzdc-H0KkPDDOjh0l2BHvJAzVwJUsN9iElN5K-zSso4e0Z6sgPDhn1ZY/s1600/DSC_0413-7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj62bxUpRVJVQylZ_wdFFYdP4qKLQRqlYel6M5r-ZU0l6l7tq6H8NtLDZBEbxdxHVRyo6vtTAizJs9mqcXn7qJgzdc-H0KkPDDOjh0l2BHvJAzVwJUsN9iElN5K-zSso4e0Z6sgPDhn1ZY/s640/DSC_0413-7.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hung lighted garland + bows along the front porch rail. Then for the first time I put a lighted garland around the front door. It looked kind of plain so I added some extra filler ornaments from the tree and pulled off some of our large candy canes (they are Martha Stewart from Home Depot last year - I got like 12 for $20 or something like that).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNoBu1pnS088D6GlC84jKhEauH0_eum5Z8v1y-Llj-eUv3TCnOAY3uV8dJSKvvVmFdktOhvrPLuMm2YQVK9t3vInZAkO3kR8m4oSsnBrWRaqrSGENw-nv7PI3WiT0y24q6XdYuVuJxCnw/s1600/DSC_0416-10.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNoBu1pnS088D6GlC84jKhEauH0_eum5Z8v1y-Llj-eUv3TCnOAY3uV8dJSKvvVmFdktOhvrPLuMm2YQVK9t3vInZAkO3kR8m4oSsnBrWRaqrSGENw-nv7PI3WiT0y24q6XdYuVuJxCnw/s640/DSC_0416-10.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the front door I was inspired again by Pinterest from this pin <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/56083957829188976/" target="_blank">HERE</a>. Again with the $2.48 Wal-Mart wreathes and ribbon I had - much cheaper on the wallet & still makes a pretty big impact from the road I think. I am so happy with how it turned out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhi38gyO9TN1SjV5xv37JQYCO03ogCcXv4EZ-ohlLcghu_-Bb9jD31o40Ven3AoI05T-eHgObo5mwscOGl7UTwjvO0rUnKRwj2ebbSAPN7foA_QQHA_C856pwuQ5wBj1f7vZ9Z94N-X18/s1600/DSC_0414-8.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhi38gyO9TN1SjV5xv37JQYCO03ogCcXv4EZ-ohlLcghu_-Bb9jD31o40Ven3AoI05T-eHgObo5mwscOGl7UTwjvO0rUnKRwj2ebbSAPN7foA_QQHA_C856pwuQ5wBj1f7vZ9Z94N-X18/s640/DSC_0414-8.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also wrapped some boxes that we had (the big ones were what I stored all my garland in last year, so I'll be bringing some new ones home from the restaurant). I found some cute wrapping paper at the Dollar Tree (tried to go for the 40sq ft rolls - watch it b/c some are only 10 or 12sq ft & you'd need several for big boxes). I think for next year I'll pay more attention to the after sales for nicer wrapping paper - but this works for now. Though I might have to switch out my big boxes b/c they aren't a sturdy as my smaller Pampers boxes are that are the top 4. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I might scrounge up some smaller scale boxes & do gift topiary's by the door (<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/56083957829196394/" target="_blank">like these</a>) - but these presents were too big & I didn't realize it until they were wrapped. (Also I put a small log from our wood pile in each so they wouldn't blow away). I still need to go make a few bows to put on the ones that are out there currently. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3bYKOMvsinGV4t3F3C0-1bOzcMvQFud-83ks6A-l5lkSh7ERP8EeyWbLt1igErehBmLCJlK_q9EiMnqccwA0-AiIEA3a4y6j-4ZbL6BNc_tMmuYbXqTI8tebM1Swp7G1JZLZutfymTnA/s1600/DSC_0417-11.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3bYKOMvsinGV4t3F3C0-1bOzcMvQFud-83ks6A-l5lkSh7ERP8EeyWbLt1igErehBmLCJlK_q9EiMnqccwA0-AiIEA3a4y6j-4ZbL6BNc_tMmuYbXqTI8tebM1Swp7G1JZLZutfymTnA/s640/DSC_0417-11.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And... one more time with those bargain wreaths (seriously I can be so cheap sometimes), but they work and if I want something new next year I won't feel guilty about it when I only have $22 wrapped up in 9 different wreathes :) Its kind of hard to see in the daylight but behind each wreath in the window inside I have 1 single candle that lights up (so 4 across the front of the house). The wreaths are hung up with some sturdy fishing line. I first positioned the candles inside & then hung the wreathes over them outside. It took about 20 minutes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Over all I'm really happy with how festive the whole house looks this year & the kids are really enjoying it, which is why we do it anyway right? I doubt we'll ever be a house that goes over the top with huge displays across the lawn that take from Halloween to assemble (you know the kind I'm talking about) but I will just aim for classy & festive</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also the kids wanted me to include one of Buddy's last antics - a snowball fight with our 2 Snowmen & 1 Snow-lady. They thought it was so funny!</div>

The Holidays are here & time is flying by isn't it?! I've kind of taken a break from sewing the last few weeks. Instead I've been decorating the house for Christmas & shopping for presents (mostly online this year). I wanted to share some pictures of what I've done around here with the help of some very inspiring pins from Pinterest. <br />
<br />
This is one of my favorite things. I found the idea on a cute blog <a href="http://pearls-handcuffs-happyhour.blogspot.com/2009/12/chandelier-tree-christmas-bling.html" target="_blank">HERE</a> on Pinterest. I used a cheap $2.50 wreath from WalMart, Some $1 store floral accents, last years after christmas sale ribbon, a few extra pine comes from my lanterns & 1 garland. It is the light fixture over our kitchen table. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-wutyX0RFbA94SrpYGTZQLWxhiYmzAVOebc0vH0hklFFK4maf0Z2MFK8lwlER2lWP3g9SmCEJDgCK62zvDK8GsEI-cHfTiqQa4kHQBig9Mys1rP4sMnQTWKdGrVbbtP6kf5UKlsjH-1c/s1600/DSC_0288-8.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-wutyX0RFbA94SrpYGTZQLWxhiYmzAVOebc0vH0hklFFK4maf0Z2MFK8lwlER2lWP3g9SmCEJDgCK62zvDK8GsEI-cHfTiqQa4kHQBig9Mys1rP4sMnQTWKdGrVbbtP6kf5UKlsjH-1c/s320/DSC_0288-8.JPG" width="212" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_eQ9fZyyFEycv2fc0b05XZ5D1yFf37zj_8qxCi2z5qSnG61DBccm12JOjNb68WN1ZuWMetskHzJhl06qraEkx3M4zZ5xButcXa7O5Gu4TTwFzMIMK59xYIu74sDCwYTdDU5EDaSQXs3M/s1600/DSC_0289-9.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_eQ9fZyyFEycv2fc0b05XZ5D1yFf37zj_8qxCi2z5qSnG61DBccm12JOjNb68WN1ZuWMetskHzJhl06qraEkx3M4zZ5xButcXa7O5Gu4TTwFzMIMK59xYIu74sDCwYTdDU5EDaSQXs3M/s320/DSC_0289-9.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I had to take it one step further & do the light fixture over our entry way. However when I started I thought I was going to wrap that chain... until I realized that all the way to top was waaaaay taller than any ladder we have, so I left it alone & lived to tell about it. :)</div>

Our tree - our 1yr old rearranges the bottom about every 10 minutes:) its still standing so I'm happy!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now don't look to close to the clutter of frames... we've been here 1.5yrs I still don't have these shelves how I want them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We put our stockings up to 1 side - b/c we use the fireplace & it gets too hot. We got the sled this fall at a local craft show thing from an antique shop that was there - SCORE $20. I've got some Jim Shore santas mixed in w/ Hobby Lobby ones on the mantle. On the other side on the bottom row are our past pictures with Santa, Christmas books and some additional holiday knick-knacks. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This time I filled up my lanterns with a multi pack of red, green & gold ornaments & some cinnimon scented pine cones. (it cost me about $18 total at WalMart) - plus I had extras that I used on my garland outside the frontdoor & on my kitchen light. I was inspired by <a href="http://www.bonbonrosegirls.com/2010/11/one-glass-jar-two-easy-holiday-centerpieces.html" target="_blank">THIS</a> blog post I found on Pinterest. Gosh I love my lanterns. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On our TV cabinet (that Dan made for us a few years ago) I have my Mickey Christmas Village - I asked for pieces of it last year & the kids & I love it. We'll keep collecting in the future. I figured the Mickey Village was fun for our kids now & in many years hopefully we'll have plenty of grandkids to enjoy it too (I'm sentimental like that). There are a few more Santa's tucked in the shelves too. </div>
